We have a small family syndicate in Northern Ireland in which we release about 100 pheasant poults each year. We also shoot other game such as woodcock, rabbit & woodpigeon.

Please see below a link to the first video I made a few weeks back:

Beautiful country, and rough to hunt. Thanks for the video.

Welcome to the site! Thanks for the video. Is private land open to the general public for hunting? Is there any public land set aside for hunting?
Without continued releases would there be any wild pheasants?
Enjoy the site and post often!

Some hunters rent the land to release birds. However, the farmers who own this ground don't charge rent as we keep vermin down, they are all sheep farmers so we keep fox numbers down which helps come lambing time.

To hunt on land here you need permission from the land owner, so it's a matter of knocking on farmers doors. There is no set aside land for hunting, although you can pay for driven shooting at pheasant estates, albeit very expensive.

Without syndicates like ours there probably wouldn't be many wild pheasants, although woodcock are 100% wild.

Well that's certainly a different look! Those hills must keep you boys in good shape. Thanks for sharing.

Great craic!. Real ankle busting territory to hunt, though! A good little dog you've got there.

Your woodcock are larger than the species we have here. I hunt them a lot with my English Setters. They're great sport with a good dog.

The hills do keep us reasonably fit.

Yeah I believe our woodcock is a little bigger, probably my favourite game bird.

Although the hills are steep, there are paths cut across them by sheep, so we walk these paths. My cocker spaniel is a good hunter, but he can sometimes be hard mouthed & damage birds.
