I know nothing about bear hunting. Is that how it is done? How often do you put bait out, and for how long?

Yep. Bait them. A big slab of bacon is very good. Get you a tree stand, put the bacon maybe 30 yards away, when the bear shows up, put a round through the shoulder. 30-06 is plenty, or 12 ga slug if he's close. If you can find an M-16, full auto is even better.

We live a long way out so bait once a week for two weeks then hunt the following week . We use an assortment of bait bread apple pie filling beef fat apples cinnamon toast sticks corn oats and grease and sugar sweet corn and what ever else we can find cheap . Usually we get one colored bear on cam each year but have only gotten two in 20 years in our camp
 
very cool Chuck. We're heading up Thursday to put up a couple of ladder stands. Saturday cant get here soon enough. I sure wish it would cool off more

No, just south of international falls, mn. Ive seen pretty good grouse numbers around our place in Vilas Co WI this year.

how's your hunt going Chuck? My brother took a 330 lber on Tuesday evening. Great Bear! I got it on video..sort of.
Good luck if youre still hunting.
The guide we were using - wow did his baits dry up in a hurry. He runs about 70 baits and he would go a few days without getting a bait hit. No idea why. The other guides in the area were having the same difficulties. The heat sure didnt help.

We were pretty lucky to get this nice bear.

We had 18 baits that17 of them were all hitAug 23-28 then they shut off Sept1-6 only a few were hit one night at a time we got 4 out of 13 and saw 6 .I did not see any but got in a bunch of night tracking and I love to see others get them too!Had pics of 35 bears on 18 baits
