Had a really fun day.. moved 4 coveys and had some excellent dog work. Found these coveys all on 1 piece of 200 acre ground. All hedge row hunting. Scenting conditions were pretty good and the birds held really tight.... so tight that on a couple coveys I literally had to step in the middle of them to get them to fly. I could see the birds sitting there looking at me, was pretty cool.
We only walked 1 small couple acre CRP patch and flushed 1 old wiley rooster.
Best quail hunt I've had in years. I really enjoyed flushing those coveys and hearing that fluttering sound!
On a side note, I got to hunt behind the best brittany I've ever seen. My buddy calls her a "pocket brittany" because she's only 24-25 lbs and he can almost fit her in his pocket haha. He thinks she must have been the runt of the litter but her really small size allowed her to get into the thickest cover and point those birds.
