We had a good trip and experience with our first Uguide hunt. Both the land and lodging host were welcoming and helpful We had good dog work and the cover is terrific. They picked the corn on Thurs and Fri which left no food source on the hunt property. We would to like to have seen some food strips left or purpose planted Milo or something left on the property. The "head shatter"(learned a new farming term for unharvested blow-by) from the corn was pretty low so not much left on the ground. Warm but not too hot and sunny day 1-2. Turned to crap on day 3 as the cold front began its trip thru SD. Temp dropped all day and the wind increased. We really struggled to find birds on day 3(Sunday). the Pheasant Camp lodge right across the road had a banner day couple of day and we were postulating that the removal of the food source encouraged the birds to migrate across the road to Pheasant Camp property. There was tons of food strips visible fro the dividing road. Lodging is more than adequate and the indoor plumbing was a nice addition compared to where we used to stay ( State park cabins) Our new hunter (12 YO boy) got his first wild bird. A new 18 month GSP on his 1st wild bird trip did very well.
I would give it a 4/5 stars only due to the lack of food after the corn was picked. it'll be interesting so see haw the follow on hunts go.
