WIHA Maps

For folks hunting KS WIHA, the Powderhook app for your phone has all of the locations indicated. You just click on a location and it'll give you directions to the spot.

It also has a satellite overlay on the map (not sure how current the image is) so you can get an idea of what the fields look like.

The Powderhook app is designed to be the Outdoor Help Desk. If you've got questions, post them in the chat area. If you are interested in helping others, click on the "me" button and become a Digital Mentor!

The app was developed by the folks at Powderhook in partnership with Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors. It was funded in part by a grant from the Cabela's Outdoor Fund.

I'd appreciate hearing what you think about the app!

Sounds awesome. I assume you need signal to use the app? Half the time Sprint gives me no signal or 1 bar. Makes using my phone in the middle of no-where an impossibility.

The WIHA didn't show up when I downloaded it, am I missing something? I clicked the box for "Public Land" but didn't see anything specifically for WIHA.

Yes it all comes up. But when I tried using it for MRAP in Missouri it takes forever and its really confusing. Or im a real idiot

I sent the folks at Powderhook the above conversation. Here is their reply:

"It should be in there, but it's definitely not labeled well yet. It's on the very long list of stuff to get done!"

This app will continue to evolve and we're working to get more data fed into it. For example, if you add the "Events" layer to maps, it will show you some, and hopefully soon, LOTS of outdoor related events for the area of the map you're looking at. So far, they have hooked up w/NWTF and have their events on the map and they're working to get electonic feeds from other sources to make the information more complete.

And we're always listening to hear what the outdoor community would like to see in this app!

Is this an app I would get from the app store or from the Kansas DOW site?

What if I see a piece of land that is clearly marked with signs, but is not on the map? I saw two this past weekend. It wasn't on my gps or in the book.

You get the app from your app store.

The information presented is from KDWPT. If you see missing signs, I'd call KDWPT to ask them about it.

I cant get any of it to pop up. Do you type in what you want in the search screen. Cause it does nothing when you do. Ive had the walk in areas up before in Kansas but I cant pull it up now. Im over it. Tried to use it this weekend and it was useless. Google maps are way easier when you connect em to the KDWP website. It was just constantly frustrating me so I removed it from my phone.

When you pull up the app, click on the map button on the bottom. Then click on the "add layers" button. You can select Public Land and that will show all of the WIHA as well as state/federal land open to hunting.

If you select the "events" layer, it will show outdoor related events in the area shown on the map.

The search function is used to find a place on the map, i.e. plug in Salina and it puts Salina in the center of the map.

Hope this helps...
