Which way to go?

Me and 4 friends are making our first trip together. One has never hunted pheasants and two have only hunted pheasants a couple of times a long, long time ago. We will be staying in Lacrosse. Looking for input on which direction to focus on. I have hunted south of Lacrosse down to Pawnee county in the past, but not sure if the numbers are there this year. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I've heard some pretty decent reports and then some pretty negative reports as well. KansasBrittany should be able to tell you more I believe, you might shoot him a PM or message. Good luck

We hunted the area between Great Bend and La Crosse this past weekend. We hit two walk-in spots first thing Sat, both has descent numbers of birds but they all flush out of range. Then we started knocking on doors. We got turned down a few times but we kept asking. Finally, one farmer let us hunt some grass around his house and we managed to get 3. We picked up some old beer cans along the road on the way back to the truck and the farmer came out to talk to us. He seen we had picked up some trash and offered us to more fields to hunt. We ended the weekend with 15 roosters and 3 quail between 4 of us. Should have been closer to 25 if we would have shot up to our abilities. All our birds came off private land. Moral of the story, treat people right and sometimes you get rewarded.

Well, that is a very nice story. It pays to treat our farmer friends with some respect, they deserve it.

Well, that is an inspiring story. Sometimes good deeds do go unpunished.

Thanks for being good sportsmen-citizens. Hope to see you in the field sometime.
