What a bummer!

I had to cancel on next week's planned SD hunt. Over the weekend I hurt my back. Monday in the office and ended up on the floor, with my leg numb from buttocks to my toes, unable to get up. MRI shows "several herniated disks". The docs have me messed up on meds and I'm waiting to get in for a consult to start rehab. But the leg is still numb after 5 days and I can't walk with a dead calf muscle. Long term prognosis is probably fine, but the timing of this sucks!

Good luck to all of you who are going. I'll be thinking of you while on the couch with an ice pack on my back.

Sorry to hear about your back. Wishing you God speed and maybe you can still make it before season ends! Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your back. I have been there, they are no fun.....Bob

Hope you get better soon. Hunting will probably be better later on anyway.

wow talk about crappy timing. I hope youre on the mend soon. Hey, I stop at the Pioneer in Weston on my way up north all the time. Hang in there

That's to bad. Talk about timing. I ruptured a couple of disc in my back so I know you pain. I was lucky enough not to need surgery. Physical therapy did the trick but to this day I still know it is there.

I hope your back is better soon. I just told the wife the other day with the flu going around and all that I hope everyone in our party is healthy for our trip. We tend to take our health for granted till its not so good.

Wishing You a Speedy Recovery

That is painful and, worse, pheasant hunting disabling, the worst combination for fellas like us. Take it easy and let time take care of it.

I am praying for your recovery. It just so happens that I am right there with you. 3 herniated disks and 2 severely sprained knees...all from being struck by a car while crossing a street while working. So I am off work but can't do anything fun like pack up the truck and the dogs and head out for the opener. In fact, I don't think that there will be any hunting for me at all this year. Been doing physical therapy for 7 weeks now with NO improvements so I meet with the doc again on the 26th to discuss next steps like injections or surgery.

I'll be curious to hear how your situation progresses. Let me know what works and doesnt work for you. I am not crazy about surgery but, if it will fix things and elleviate (sp?) my pain, I am for it.

Take care and just know that you are not alone. I am living vicariously thru the forum posts of others who are hunting and also the hunting shows on TV.:D

"several herniated disks" turned out to be a misdiagnosis read to me over the phone by a nurse because the doctor was too damned busy to talk to me. At that clinc it would be a MONTH before any one would see me for consult. My chiropractor got me into another clinic and they are too busy for a month to treat me. The next step was call a doctor I play golf with, who happens to be a spine disorder/pain specialist. He saw me right away and showed me the MRI shows a ruptured disk. He arranged for a cortisone injection the same day, made the appointment for a second shot Nov 3 and I start physical rehab this coming Tuesday. Now we're talkin!

So sorry to hear there are others out there unable to hunt and in worse shape than me. My prayers go out to all of you who are ailing and for all going afield for a safe and enjoyable hunt. I'll be there next year come hell or high water!!!

Ranger Rick, Take it from a man that has been there 3 times and I know. When the Physical Therapist, gives you a series exercise to do. Do them just like they say. If I had a good P.T. person the first 2 times. I would not have had 2 spine operations. I now do the exercises every night, they help keep the back aches away and I really feel good. One last thing don't expect the therapy to clear it up in a short time. It will take some time and you get better over a period of time......Bob

Ranger Rick, hope things get better for you soon. I too am going through a little pain with a damaged rotator cuff. Went to DR.s monday and told him I was heading to South Dakota friday to go hunting for a week and needed some help to get through until I get back. He gave me a cortisone shot and some Ibuprofen. Still alot pain with arm hanging down and just walking. I did find out that if I put my arm in a sling while walking it felt much better... Now all I need to do is figure out how to shoot with the sling on:)

Fellas: Thanks for all of the encouraging words. Shotgunner66, I pray for a full recovery for you. I'm a regular in the gym, going to our Y 3 mornings a week and I will be incorporating whatever work the therapist gives me. I'm an active guy with a lot of hobies, hunting being just one, and most of my hobies are with me on my feet. The end goal now will be to rehab and get in shape for the 2010 golf season. With missing out on the regular SD trip, I'm also beginning to recruit for a pheasant hunt the first week of December and still hope to pull it off. Good luck to all of you heading out for your pheasant hunts.
