Wednesday Morning Fun

I hit a few different areas Wednesday morning and had the fields to myself. The dogs worked great with many points, a retrieve on a winged bird and another fine retrieve. Champ made both retrieves today and is doing great in his first year. We put up close to 15 pheasants but no woodcock that I hunted for after we got our 2 pheasants. It sure did get warm by late morning and was very un-November like.

Sounds like a great hunt, having the fields to yourself and seeing plenty of birds. Champ is going to be a good one for sure. Do you think he is further along than the other two at the same age?

Champ is much further along than Nittany was but that is due to bird contacts and Nittany being my first dog. I think Champ is a little further ahead than Blitz was but again I think that is due to bird contacts. Blitz had a good number of contacts but with Champ I had access to quail from the johnny house.

Thursday evening was pretty good, too. Started out with 3 birds flushing wild and heading towards the standing corn. I kept working and then I saw a archery hunter in the woods. I waved to him and turned around to let him have the area. Of course the dogs go on point and when I go in for the flush the rooster flies right in the direction of the deer hunter. I don't shoot and as the dogs go through a different part of the field another rooster flushes. He's in an area that offers a safe shot and I take him. I finally get the dogs to move on and then they have another point. This proves to be a hen. We put up a few more roosters but they were in an area that doesn't provide the best shot due to houses. In total we put up 9 total pheasants. It's still too warm for me, though.

With those three guys working the fields the Roosters are in big trouble!

Looks like a great team. What part of PA are you in? I grew up in the western part of the state in the Johnstown area and deer hunted with family in Clearfield. I currently live in SW Ohio and just got introduced to Pheasant hunting last year after getting a GSP puppy.

We Are!

Penn State!

I'm in Adams county, close to Gettysburg. Once a year I head to western PA to hunt a preserve that I enjoy running the dogs on. It's in Addison, PA.

It's amazing what a puppy and dog can do to a guy's life.

Good luck this season.

It was another short but productive outing with the dogs again. We saw a total of 5 roosters, 1 hen and 3 deer in about 45 minutes. I hit a different area where the corn was just harvested in the last few days and that is where I got rooster number two on the day. The first rooster was a wounded bird that Champ brought back to me.

They had no interest in stopping for a picture.

Champ sure liked to range out in the open cornfield and could see some of his field trial blood coming out.

I wish there was an icon for being jealous
I am glad you are having a good season. The dogs appear to be enjoying it as well.

Great looking team.... And I just love their names !!!!!!!!!

Keep the pictures and posts coming! They really make my day.
