In case anyone is interested. NRCS now has an online access to all soil data at

http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/HomePage.htm

Enables you to drill down on an acreage and find out about how productive the soils are and what types of yields you can look for. I think the yield data is way old so take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the link. I played around with it for awhile, lots of neat stuff to do and info to be learned.
