Using live morning doves to train

Does anyone use live morning dove to train instead of pigeon. Just asking because I could trap them in my back yard and use them in stead of pigeons as they come in when I put bird seed out all the time.

I don't know about Canada, but one could assume trapping a migratory bird in the states and using it for training would run afoul of some game laws.

Probably right. Never thought of that. I wanted to use them just to release infront of the dog to get her steady to point, but I guess using them will be a No No.

is it possible to trap feral pigeons out of old buildings?
i think i read somewhere that all pigeons can be taught to "home"
just leave'em in the coop for a few weeks and you start by taking them 100 yds away and toss'em,than increase the distance
probably oughta research it

one falconer i know would just go in an old barn at night and grab them off the roost,by hand
there was also something about dosing the birds with medicine( its cheap) when they're caught wild.
cant remember, chickens and pigeons can carry diseases ,you might want to research it
the doves are protected by the same treaty as ducks and geese
good luck
