Under 60 days

It was pretty green and wet on top of Guenella Pass Wednesday.... Even saw a young moose at the summit wallowing in the lake. I think it will be good year for the grouse population. The prior years snow really did a number on the ptarmie population. Still might spend a day or two trying to find a few.

Tough running somebody elses dog. My lab has been around my hunting partner since he was a puppy. Ty won't really hunt for anybody except me. He'll range out in front of other people but if a bird gets knocked down he brings it to me. It'll be a great feeling the first time she points and then retrieves a downed bird. Nice thing about grouse is if it has feathers it is legit. Ty still looks at me funny when I don't shoot when a hen flies up.

Good job finding grouse close to home.... You'll have to pm me when it gets close to season and we can meet up and walk the guns. Are you chasing dove opening weekend or gouse?

I hunted ptarmigan every March while stationed up in Alaska. Hatcher's Pass, on snowshoes, with my ole yellow lab, limit was 10. They would only flush with a dog. I hunted Willow ptarmigan....

Ptarmies are fun but getting up to them is tough. There are a few coveys on Loveland pass but you have to go early before all the hikers get loose up there. Ptarmies tend to run abit but if you get the dog on them you can kill a few.
I've had really good luck with dove in both Pueblo area and also out towards Brush. Jumbo Res holds birds and generally isn't too crowded.. Plus you can bang the SWA's up and down the Platte. Elliot SWA out of Brush is huge so overcrowding generally isn't an issue. The 1st falls on a Saturday so it might be busy.... I like going during the week when most of the yeahoos are working.
