Type of feeder for pheasants and quails

On my hunting ground I already have some wild pheasants and now I'm planning to put some bobwhite quail on the same ground aswell(conditioned before using Johnny house). My question is what type of feeders would be best so both species would be able to use those feeders? I really like this easy to make and cheap design(picture below) of a spring feeder but the height of the spring wouldn't match because of the height difference in pheasants and quail. Anyone with any other helpfull idea? Thank you

Welcome Zego:). Can you introduce your self in the introduction section? Also, where are you from? When I let you into the site it said you were from Eastern Europe? Is that the case or are you within the states?

Nick:cheers:

Welcome!! I have seen some chicken wire around fence posts or trees that you would put the ears of corn in and fill up to 4 feet. I think the 4 foot was when it would snow, the tree rows would fill up or drift in with snow and the birds could reach the higher ears of corn! Just an inexpensive way to have many feeders if it is legal in your state!

BleuBijou thank you for your input, even though I have to admit that picture in my head of what're you're talking about is not very clear to me, perhaps you have any picture of the feeder you're describing? I also have to say that I'm planning to fill the feeders with wheat instead of corn and that here where I live(Mediterranean climate) we rarely get any snow, maybe we get a few inches of snow in some winters which is almost always gone in a matter of 3-4 days.

I think the bigger problem here is water because we don't have any standing water (rivers, lakes, creeks,..) so that's why I'm making small ponds like the one in the picture below (the dogs right eye is perfectly fine, just in this picture it looks a little bit strange, it was a cold morning for this time of year and he didin't really want to go inside :D)

Here I'm posting some pictures of the habitat where there are a few wild pheasants. First pictures are from up in the hill area where used to be a huge forest full of giant pines, then 7 years ago there was a huge fire and the forest burned completely and now we have this dense cover/bushes as you can see in the pictures.

Since you do not have corn or much snow, this is not going to help much. But here is an example of what I was talking about, minus the corn!!lol Put around trees or a post so it does not tip over and will act like a bird feeder for lots of critters!

Here are some pictures of the lowland area, what do you all think it's the main cause preventing the pheasants numbers to go up?

In the future I'm planning to make some grain sorghum plots(if I get permission from the land owners) and like already mentioned above I will put out some feeders. What more do you think it needs to be done? I'm also doing a lot of predator control, shooting foxes and martens in the winter, main predators here.

BleuBijou thanks for the picture, I get it now. I am also afraid that wild boars and badgers would suck out all the corn from this type of feeders before pheasants would even find it. Otherwise very good idea.

Hey Zego. Thanks for sharing your pics, that is some pretty country. By the looks of it I would guess that quality nesting habitat is your limiting factor but it's hard to tell just from a few pics. That scrubby dense cover screams california quail to me, they thrive in a lot more habitat types than bobwhites do. If it's possible to find some for propagation you might consider them over bobs.

Also, California quail thrive in Mediterranean climates.

Do an internet search for "gallinaceous guzzler" if your like to see how we water wild life in the arid west of the USA.

Very interesting quail hound. Not to go off topic I sent you PM regarding California quail.

Those small bushes you see it's everything a plant Blackberry(Rubus fruticosus) with unlimited amount of ripe berries in this time of year

That is some sweet looking terrain. Do you have Francolin or pheasants?

I went to Zimbabwe on my honey moon and hunted Francolin a few months ago. Very neat experience

Just a few pheasants and European quail(coturnix coturnix) here and there. Terrain may look nice but when it comes to small game it's very depleted.
