Murry and I were out watching a beautiful Kansas sunset and listening to the pheasants crowing and thinking that tomorrow the season opens.

I feel like a kid on Christmas eve.

Maynard,
The "TAZ" and I are headed your way Tuesday night. Will be in Hanston Wed-Fri. Good luck to you and Murry. If time allows, lets have dinner!

Jim,

Sounds good, especially since my wife will be with the grandkids and I will have to fend for myself. Give me a call.

Well???? What's the word, BYRD?:D:p:D Did the hail get 'em all, or did some young 'uns manage to survive the weather and opening weekend? I hope the chicks survived because I'm not skilled enough to hunt the wise ol' roosters.

Toad,

It was unusual, in that my usual hunting buddy was delivering cattle and couldn't make it and my oldest son would not get here till noon on Saturday and that actually turned out to be 4:30PM Saturday. He and I went out for an hour and my son got one. We had a number of birds flushing wild. We had hopes that the snow would move in Saturday evening and give us a blanket of white for Sunday, but that turned out to be drizzle. We sighted in rifles from under cover and when the forecast turned to heavy snow, he figured he better head east since he had to be in Norman Monday morning on a job. After he leaves the forecast changed to not much snow. Just a little snow on the ground this morning and a little still coming down. With ground temps above freezing and lots of moisture, it will be sloppy.

I need to get out and feed the cattle, then Murry and I will go it on our own and see what we can find. I hurt a knee a couple weeks back and it is really slowing me down. Tough to keep up with Murry.

From the forum posts there was some good hunting, but we didn't hurt the population any. I think you will find some good numbers for your later hunt.

Thanks for posting that beautiful photo.

Bagged four nice roosters in the little snow we had before 10AM today. A little nippy and a bit of a breeze but it sure beat Monday morning at work. I missed a couple more shots today which is unusual for me. I have been trying to use some shells I wanted to get rid of and when I changed to the Kent's I bagged three birds with four shots so I guess I am back on track again. Hope the others had good luck too.
