I know that this is not a turkey hunting site, but I do not think that there is one like this in Kansas. If there is ,please let me know. I live in SEK,and have been a turkey hunter for several years, since the quail population has dropped. Just wanted to know if anyone else would be interested in talking turkeys.I will leave this at that ans see if ther is any response.Seems like this fourm dries up about this time of the year, and I alwaus lkie to talk hunting. Please respone if you are interesed.

Where abouts do you hunt in SEK? My turkey and deer property is just west of Parsons about 10 miles and about 20 miles south of Chanute. And boy are there a ton of turkeys on our property! its a river bottom full of thick hardwoods and big cottonwood. Oh how I love killing big toms every spring!
Also fish midday at local lakes to kill time!

There are plenty of turkey hunters around here. I too enjoy the season. The weather is great, everything is turning green, and there are a lot of great sounds early in the morning. I just wish I could use my dogs.

Don't forget post pics when you get em'. Good luck!

took a trip this past saturday to paola,ks to pick up my new gwp pup and seen 3 toms by their self in a cut milo field and on the way back seen a group of about 20 in another field with several nice sized toms in the group, can't wait wish it would hurry and get hear.

I live in Pittsburg. Mostly hunt in Crawford County, with a couple of spots in Cherokee co. My sons and I have been out two or three times scouting(listening) and just Wednesday started to hear some gobbles. From what I am seeing and hearing from farmers, the bird population is down again.I hope to help it go down even further ,come April 14th.Looks like it willbe a wet and cold spring, which should make the breeding season run a little latter in the spring. I work a strange scheduel (off Wed. and Sundays),so if anyone is interested,I would be alright to get together and to try and persuade some thunder chickens to come into shotgun range.I almost enjoy calling and old tom away from his girls as much as shooting one. Lst me know what you guys are seeing in your neck of the woods.
Good mluck,and be safe

If any of you Turkey hunters could make a trip to the Hillsdale area this spring it would be much appreciated. There is a small population of quail in the area and I would like to see the Quail numbers improve and the Turkey numbers decrease. Last season while deer hunting I saw over 100 turkey in just a couple days.

Do you have access on the place you saw those 100 birds? I'd be happy to help you out.......

It's not private land, It is all public hunting. I guess it just doesn't get hit that hard for Turkey. Most of the birds I saw were right off Waverly Rd. between 247th and 263rd. If you head north on Waverly Rd right before it turns west to 247th street there is a pull off. This pull off will take you to a boat ramp with public hunting on either side. I hunted the ground directlyto the west and there were plenty of Turkey there each and every morning and evening. Let me know how you do and let other people know about the turkey around the lake. I'm hoping to try and get some people out to reduce the turkey population this spring and hopefully the quail numbers might recover in the future. If you go the following website you can dowload a hunting map of Hillsdale. http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/hi/Hunting.cfm

My sons went out this AM,to do some scouting,,and boy,was I wrong. They heard several toms, and alot of jakes sounding off this morning.I am going out tomorrow,if it doesn't rain to listen at out other "hot spot",hope I hear several,as they did

just got back in from looking and listening,no birds at our hoy spot, have moved across the road,to bad, because the land owner is a jerk.Went to another spot just 5 min before flydown, where they ever talking, hens and toms.Once they hit the ground they hungup.Thats typical this time of the year.At least,we are hearing several males birds this year, only 4 weeks away from the opener.

Well,my youngest is a turkey hunter, sort of.We went out yesterdat pm to one of our hot spots, and we managed to bag a nice jake.We where there for about two hours and hadn't seen or heard a thing then a hen started a fight with me,she and her friend got within 30 yards before deciding that the decoys where not worth the effort.I told my son that if there are any male birds around, they should be coming by soon to see what all the cutting and yelping was about. Sure enough about 10 mins later,I was watching west and my son goes"Dad Dad Dad" and his eyes get to the size of silver dollars, about 8 jakes are 30 yards behind me.I slowly turned my head, and as all of you turkey hunters know, that was a mistake. Those birds got real birdy.I slowly gave them a soft purr cluck, and that all it took for those hot young studs to think that there might be a hen wanting their hot bodies. They lined up and walked right to us.Now, he can only kill toms from here on out, thats are rule, first bird can be anything with a beard second bird must be a tom.Any way,Dad is very proud and son is sleeping in today.

well, theopener was great.we hunted three nice places and had adult birds on the ground at all three.Last evening,we had one come in from about 250 yds and hang up un us at 60 yrds, but boy did he put on a great show for about 45 mins.BIg spurs on this ird. There where two other tom's in the field, but they wouldn't come close to this old boy.He must of whip the tar out of them.My son and I are heading back ther this AM,hoping to set up at the right spot, and just maybe,if the HUnting Gods are in the mood,I can call this old bird close enough for the kill.

nice!!!!! That's great when you can get two toms in a race to the decoys.I got two young one this AM,and we are heading out within the hour...good luck to all

just got back from Southeast kansas and boy did I have a great time! Got a big tom this morning and it was my first double bearded bird! Didnt see as many turkeys as I normally do though and only had one opportunity at an adult bird. Hunting was tough this year! but it was a success and had a blast. Got to go train my shorthair pup now!

Thanks, it was an awesome time! We started calling in a creek bottom and two toms answered and very slowly came in. I got the bigger of the two at about 12 yards. What a rush!
