tug of war

I just brought home my new pointing lab pup. I have a 12 year old lab that I trained for waterfowl. I never let him play tug of war because I did not want him doing that with a bird that he retrieved. My question is, the new pup plays tug of war with the older dog. Is this OK? Is it ok for him to do that with the older dog as long as I don't do it?

Pics to come soon!

I am not a professional, but I would let the pups play as long as it was not something that I just threw for one of the dogs. They should be taught to honor each other's retrieve right away.

That is kind of what I thought. It's one of the few things my older dog can do with him. The older dog can't run and keep up with the pup but they both seem to enjoy tugging on a toy with each other.

Tug of war isn't always bad, I play some tug of war, but I also made sure he knows the command "Drop It" and in that way we can play or whatever, but he knows who is in charge and that if I want something he has, it's mine.
