Trip Update

We made it to SD early Sun morning after staying in Sioux Cit, IA. Immediately started driving and looking and have covered ground from Yankton to Presho. Had a private place to hunt above Presho and killed one midday Sunday. Found some birds on public late Sunday and were able to get 5 more. Hunted all day today, drove a lot, walked close to 5 miles across several public tracts and ended today with 5, only because we flat missed a few.
The birds are bunched up. We have had very few random single flushes even from hens. They are staying in cover and a drive by does not tell you if they are there or not. Not really much sign in the snow either. We have had two places where the birds left public, only to settle in just barely in the area we cannot hunt. Great trip so far, great state and thanks to reddog for checking in on us.

Sound like fun hope u keep seeing birds...

Reddog sure seem like a stand up guy helped me find a place to eat on MN opener via message on the forums nice guy

Put your head down and keep hunting. Weathers in your favor for this trip.

I've been here since yesterday afternoon. Too cold to hunt so I went fishing. :). Caught a nice limit thru the ice yesterday and this morning. Incredible that the Temps moderated this quickly.. Woke up to 15 degrees this morning. Had a great day putting a roof on the garage. Birds were feeding today! Felt bad going to lumber yard this morning. A group of pheasants flushed out in the field to the west flying east across the road. A nice rooster didn't navigate the high lines . :(

How did the rest of your trip go very curious how ya did???

heading out tomorrow night, cant wait! rumor has it the snow is mostly gone west of mitchell, so we'll see how that works out!

Had planned to post one more time about our trip but got busy with Christmas and did not get to it till now. We hunted last Tuesday morning on a small piece of public ground we had hunted a couple years ago and found some more birds. Worked thru some thick stuff and killed a couple, hit another small patch of cat tails and got another couple and then worked thru another mess of thick cattails/grass and the birds scattered on a thin grassy high spot. We eased up there and apparently the birds tried to bury themselves under the snow and grass. My Brits got two points on roosters and we finished our day. It was about 1 o clock and we decided to head on back to Arkansas. Great trip!! It seems there were not as many roosters as in years past but we jumped a bunch of hens. It should be good next year with favorable weather. Thanks again guys!
