Trimming setter fur short

Half of the beauty of a setter is the long fur and feathering on the tail etc. but it can create a nightmare from burrs and sand spurs. How short are folks trimming this fur to avoid the issues that come from clumps of burrs?

Not sure. But I do remember pulling burrs out of our Gordon. Probably why we had labs since.

I’ve seen some pictures of setters cut short with a tail that still flags.. they look good. Let you k ow in a month when my dog comes home!

I gave mine a field cut before the season. This is 3 months later. I’ve never had trouble with burrs. Very minimal.
