Some of you know I like to shoot an older 12ga SxS and I shoot 2 1/2" shells out of it. Since RST feels like their stuff needs to be priced like it is loaded with gold dust, I have switched to a new maker for the shells. I recently ordered a few boxes of Armusa 2 1/2" Vintage Classic shells loaded with 1oz of #6. I shot a SD limit of pheasant Friday with them. They are really nice loads for the older guns. The only thing I would have changed on Friday was shooting #5 shot instead. With the wind the way it was I feel like I might have had a little better performance from the lighter pressure 1oz load. They shot clean and functioned 100%.

With that lighter load, did you use a tighter choke? Were you able to pattern them? Any longer shots tried? The boxes say 6% antimony, so no soft shot like some cheaper factory loads. These sound like a good load not only for the older guns, but lighter recoil for the lite O/U's too.

The gun was built sometime between 1874-1885 in London. It was rebarreled in 1962 by Westley Richards. It has fixed LM/F chokes. The first two birds I shot were in the 25-30yd range. The last one I shot was a nice quartering away close to 40-45yds as I was third in the line to get a shot. I didn't even bother shooting the right barrel at it, I just went straight for the left only knowing I would get one shot. All three birds fell pretty hard.
