Hunted almost all the WIHA in said counties from the 13th thru the 19th. Killed 7 phez and about a dozen quail. One day we only killed 1 quail. The last day I hunted in Gove county with GCB. He took us to a few of his spots where we killed 2 phez and 2 quail before noon. Alot of leather was worn off my boots to get the few birds we got. We tried all types of habitat at all different times of the day but struggled all week. GCB blamed our poor results on the weather. One spot we hunted, we flushed over 150 birds out of cane but they ran into thick cattails with us only able to kill 1. It seemed every WIHA had fresh shells on the ground. Perhaps we were just behind someone else all week long.
GCB - I thank you again! ya'll are nuts!!!

We just got back from hunting in similar areas.

I was down there for three days. It almost appeared as if the birds had totally disappeared from the opening week.

We walked an average of 9 miles a day and hunting three different geographic areas. It was myself and two buddies and we spent one day just us and then joined with others portions of the remaining two days.

The facts are they are still there as nothing has killed them all. Not man, not bird of prey, nor coyote, nor bobcat, nor cougar. In one place where I was hunting they had not had measurable rain since mid to later April.

Harvested 12 day one, 12 day two, and 8 in a half day on Tuesday. Was the hunting tough? Yes, tougher than I had experienced in a long time in Kansas.

I think they chased to the county west & south of where you were at, i.e. where I'm at.

Just kidding. Me & my 2 hunting partners (my 1 & 2 yr old kids) have been kicking up birds, but it isn't the same as opening w/e, & we usually have to earn our birds.
