Tournament or competition hunting?

Just wondering if anyone is participating in any events, or know of some events comming up?

I asked this same questions last week and haven't gotten any responses. I know that there is an organization that an owner of a sporting clays course here in KS is a part of and regularly competes in. Its called The National Upland Classic Series. They have meets pretty much all over the country. They just had their nationals this past weekend. There is their link and it has a schedule.

There is one coming up the last weekend here in KS that I'm going to go watch and still undecided if I'm going to run my dog or not.

Thanks Kansas hunting, the problem I have I hear about these things after they have taken place. I have participated in a few that I have heard of but Im sure there would be alot more interest if people would know about them.

I know I just heard about it about 2-3 weeks ago when I was doing a preserve hunt and became very interested. So I'm gonna go watch and most likely compete later this month. It sounds like a blast. Hopefully that schedule will help you some but it seems like the season is winding down for now until the fall. That was the first time I had ever heard about such a thing as tournament hunting when I was on my hunt.

How did you do when you competed in the past?

I have done pretty good. In the five or six times I have competed I have 2 winning runs and I have never done worse than 5th, but that wasn't the dogs fault it was because Im NOT a good shot. I have been practicing and hopefully that will help.

What kind of dogs do you run KH? What part of Kansas are you in?

Good job ford. Congrats.
Headed to a trial this weekend. Had some fun last fall with River. She got 3 wins 1 2nd 2 3rds and a 4th. She finished 4th in the nation in Puppy points, just running those 7 fall trials. Had to quit because she got an Awn in her foot, and had surgery. She would have easily been high point pup in the mid west if we could have gone to the last 4 events. And when she won in ND, she beat the National high point pup.

Heres to more fun. And good luck!

kansas hunting where is this event taking place at we are having one here also at the end of the month in collyer kansas it will be held at pheasant runn hunting club i participate there all the time it is alot of fun

went last weekend to a navhda trainning day and am going to try to test my pup this fall in the na test and then go from there and will try to go to every monthly training day throughout the summer to get help in training my dog, just trying to learn how to it right.

Wow you've done pretty good, Ford, for only a couple times out or rather your dog has done well, haha. I usually have that problem too.. I've got a black lab so I would participate in the flushing. Not sure how we would do but thats what I'm curious about. He did great for his first year this season. I'm located in central KS around Great Bend, I just moved back from Lawrence a couple months ago.

FCS do you just run field trials or tournament hunt? I finally got to hunt behind a field bred ESS and a field bred English Cocker. What amazing breeds those two are!! Now I'm torn between another lab or a Cocker.

Gove County - yeah thats the one I'm talking about coming up at the end of the month in Collyer. Have you ever participated at La Sada by Russel, KS?

kansas hunter no i havent competed at La Sada yet i go to different ones i,m not very impressed with the peaple at La Sada pm me and maybe we can hook up at that trial and meet and maybe set up some hunting for next year:cheers:

Just trials for now, Loren who I took over for used to run those gundog things, and thats all he did. I don't have time for both.:D you have to pick your poison, all fun no matter what.

River made it to the 3rd series in her first all age trial, pretty good for a 42 dog stake, 11 were in the 3rd and she was one of the top ones, but she went on a retrieve over a hill and all hell broke loose.:D She ended up with a trap but it was not her bird. OH well, I was still happy with her. She came in season so cant run her the next couple, but have 2 trials this weekend with the other dog. Glad to have 2 to run. I also will judge my first puppy stake this weekend, 21 young dogs. Should be fun, can't get better seats.

Gotta love the dogs in glory and defeat. A little more time and she sounds like she'll be a pro. The tournament hunt I was scheduled to attend I had to cancel. The dog was out at the farm and chased a rabit into a scrap iron pile and cut his paw on a piece of tin. No stitches but he ran around with a white paw for a week. It was a gonna be our first competition, I was a little more disapointed than the dog but theres always the fall. I did get him out last night in a feild my unlce owns. He found 2 quail and held them with a flash point, and flushed a couple hens in a ditch. I've been seeing quite a few birds this spring. Hopefully the weather proveils and helps the wheat crop.

KH, you make a good point, ahhh yes the defeat. And some times it all comes from injury. River will now miss all the rest of the spring trials. "SUCKS". Sorry to hear about your dog KH.
Now to top off not being able to run River, Odie my talented male hit a ditch wide open on his last bird in the 2nd serries, while going for a easy rutine retrieve. He hit hard and did a tripple flip with a reverse twist something or other, landed facing the oppisite direction on his hind legs, front legs pointing to the sky, almost falling backwards one last time, but came down and took off the direction he was facing, problem was it is now the wrong way and he his hurt. I had to handle to the fall now and he was reluctant to go back to the area. He got it but no third for it. Too bad cause till then it was a flawless day. The bad thing is now with this and the beaver stick he hit hunting, he will not hard charge any more, and his trial career may be done just like that, in a fraction of a second. Hopefully I can get him back and his confidence built up but it has been 7or 8 times he has had this happen. So this the next weekend he ran slower and guarded, off pace. I guess we better cherish the nice runs we get when they come. Cause ya never know when they will end.

Theayo is much better now. he had a gauze bandage on for about a week and 2 weeks of anti-biotics. You can still see where he split it but its fully healed. He likes to show the chicks his battle scar :10sign:

Dang FC thats terrible. I can't even imagine his mid-air accrobatics. What happened to River? Hopefully your male will get past his reluctancy. Just gotta give him some time like you said to regain his confidence.

Kansashunting thats great maybe we can hookup on the trial circuit or maybe get a hunting trip together

Good to hear KH, good luck when you get him back out there. Lets just say River has a complicated girl problem. Kinda grose to talk about.
I am trying the dog in the window trick for awhile. I set the crate up so he can watch all the dogs run, get amped up, then just let him do a marked retrieve or 2 and put him away. He flew to the retrieve last night. So hopefuly it will carry over to the field later this summer. If not, you may find him at the BDC.

Yeah GCB we'll have to do both.

FCS what is the BDC? there quite a few things I could make up to fit those initials. I did try and google it knowing it wasn't going to help but it was kinda funny thinking the dog might make it into the Broadway Dance Center! But hopefully he doesnt have to take up tap dancing and can keep hunting.
