A male dog leapt over our 5 foot fence and mated with my female today. I do not want her to have puppies (health reasons: She is 5 1/2 years old and the male is much larger than her.. No interest in the mixture the puppies would be as well.). There are drugs that can be used to terminate dog pregnancies, but it seems finding a place that will do it is very difficult. They all want to use spaying as the solution. I planned to get her spayed after this season, but spaying her in 3 weeks (how long to verify pregnancy) and another -8 weeks recovery would take us out of most of the Minnesota season this year.
They do the drug procedure 10 days after breeding to allow all the sperm to die off first. The earlier it is done in the pregnancy, the better for the dog. So I have just over a week to find a vet who can do this.
It seems like the best drug for this is Alizin, so I am looking for a vet who can do blood work first to ensure no health issues preclude use of the drug, administer the shots (2 shots 24 hours apart) and perform followup checks/care.
I am around the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, but willing to travel, even out of the state if needed.
