Ticks

Are there different kinds of Frontline? I applied a fresh dose to my black lab in Mid-October and 10 days later, after one trip to the woods, I pulled four off her throat from beneath her collar. It should have been strong enough to prevent that, certainly.

Years ago I put some cheapo Hartz stuff on both dogs in midsummer and by the next morning their crates were covered in dead and dying ticks.

Also, a note to the vets out there, I heard that since I have immunized the pups for Lymes the tests are no longer accurate. Is that so?

Thanks for the great topic.

Are you talking about the Snap test for Lymes ?? I have not heard anything about the test being not accurate, typically when your Vet does the test and if it comes up positive he might send a blood sample it to other facilities to make sure that he doesn't have any other types of Lymes like Anaplasmosis or urethra (sp?). everything is treated by a heavy dose of antibiotics for 30 days.

Due to Katerina in these diseases have migrated their way up north from the south and my vets saying these cases are becoming more prevalent here in the north.

Actually my vet mentioned that once vaccine is given any test he had would detect traces of the Lymes. And don't get me started on anaplasmosis... or Erlichiosis... I think the doc's gonna name a new wing after Daisy and Buck.
