Thoughts and stuff

Hey guys...

Damn hot here in the 'bluegrass" today!
Hope we all get some needed moisture and cooler temps!

I have been hunting KS since the mid 90's....
Originally from Nebraska, I call Kentucky home.

I respect all that Kansas and other prairie state have to offer.
Your rich tradition of family farms and values, small town hospitality and good to excellent hunting.

I've seen much in my years and yes...I too hate to see the problems we (bird hunters) now face:

1. Loss of habitat and damn clean farming methods.
2. Every increasing amount of leased and posted ground.....
3. Increased hunting pressure....due to the web, lack of good hunting in other formerly good states....

Fall to me is the special time of year....it takes me back to my youth on the Nebraska plains....the crisp fall air, cooler temps and the Huskers beating up on their big 8 rivals!

We all love this sport...right?
I do.... even though it's getting tougher each year to find good numbers of birds, deal w/ party and slob hunting and loss of prime hunting grounds!

Call me crazy....but I hope that many years from now, I will still get that felling each fall and feel the strong desire to buy extra boxes of shells, too many pairs of gloves, a new pair of boots and look at all the over priced double guns and drool!

Thanks Dad for taking me on my first hunt....on that cold, snowy December day...circa 1980

Great post HighBrass68! Fall has always been a special time for me as well and I'm only 22! Last year was the first year I've ever hunted in Kansas and I made memories that will last a lifetime! I have truly enjoyed the hospitality of Kansas and it's people as well. And I hope that 40-50 years from now I'll be able to look back and think of all the great times I've had hunting over the years. I wish Texas would get it's head screwed on straight again and get the good hunting days back. Take down on these high fences, and do things to help the quail and pheasant numbers instead of concentrating on the deer all the time. By the way, great Longhorn vs Husker game last year! Hook Em!

Great post! Uncle Wally, thank you for taking me pheasant hunting when I was a patience-trying lad so many years ago, for not scolding me when the first pheasant I bagged was a hen, and for being an example of a rock-solid man. I wear your work belt every day I am afield and always think of you when I buckle it on. RIP.

After talking with HighBrass, I can say he's definitely a high quality individual and I can't wait to hunt with him this year! My thanks go out to grouchyolddude for taking me out for my first hunt last year and Pairoflabs as well! Hope to hunt with these guys (and any more I'm fortunate enough to meet) for years to come!
