They know the season is over.

Last night I went out to do some scouting and pulled next to a field and watched to rosters peck at a bean field for about 10 minutes. They got to about 15 yards from my running truck. Long tail feathers and their breast shined in the setting sun. They will make good dads for next seasonâ??s birds.

I agree!

Friday evening the wife and I went out to grab a bite to eat. On our way, we saw several roosters standing around in a field (freshly plowed) near our house. They seemed pretty bold since there was no significant cover anywhere in sight and there is no shortage of hawks in the area.

Btw, Crusaderhunter, you should think about a future in pheasant romance novels. "Long tail feathers and their breast shined in the setting sun" would make any hen quiver in her feathers. :)

Saw close to 10 pheasants today on the way to work in the ditch getting ready to cross the road. Most were hens and I think there was a dead rooster. Hopefully they made it across safe. And then further down the road another rooster was out for a jog, I nearly bagged him but no dice. They definently are out more with the nicer weather and nobody shooting at them. But the scouting has already begun!
