Monday just Milo and I went on an "old guys" only hunt. We hit up a couple of WIHA areas and had some pretty good luck. Found birds on both of them.

Thought I would share a photo of him on a single from a covey he had pinned in a hedgrow. We were on the shady side of it and this is the best photo of the 6 I took unfortunately. We didn't take any birds from the covey, instead I chose to just let him have some fun with them. I think there was probably 12-15 birds total. It was like the old days. This hedgerow was a mile long. He pointed birds all up and down it and just had a ball. Although not as youthful as Obie he teaches me something each time we go out. He was my first pointer I have had in probably 20 plus years. Drove all the way across MO to get him and even if he never pointed a bird I would still keep this guy around. He is NOT your typical pointer. He is a one man dog, won't hunt with other dogs. He just won't leave my side with another dog around, other than my lab I should say. He lays around in the yard under a tree in the summer and watches me weed the garden, loves to retrieve dummies and tennis balls and eats tomatoes like mad!

dogs

If a man doesn't like dogs its because he has never had or been around a good bird dog. I believe the dog learns as much about man than a man learns about a dog. Dogs are just awesome. Funny thing is my 2 year old wirehair loves to chomp on tomatos too. I don't get that at all.

Mine will eat tomatoes and any other salad vegetable.

Any food my kids drop is the new best thing ever according to the dogs. I don't think they taste it, just gulp and it's gone.

When I was a kid, my dog would eat the tomatoes right off the plant. Now it's our chickens that steal them all.
