When I rolled over the hill to the CRP, there were a couple dozen on the road and across in the bean stubble. Guessing it was about 8:25 when I started, good cloud cover but it was still not ideal for IDing the roosters for another 30 minutes or so. My shooting was not pin-point on target as I had 2 winged birds that evaded my dog and I. I had a friend swing by as I was getting back to the truck with just a single. We decided I would walk a different waterway nearby...he would block at the end. About 20 yards in and Gus had points on 3 young birds, the very first one, I decided a bit late, that it was a rooster. Another 20 yards or so, another good point and I am expecting more young ones and a nice full colored rooster busts out and I dump him in the creek, Gus has it by the time I need to get there. 20 more yards and a other point, a young one gets up pretty low and I tell it is a rooster with short tail feathers. He zigs right as I shoot and changes course but I fold him with my 2nd shot. Pushed it the rest of the way and two more hens at the end, the blocker didn't get any shooting here today.
