Sweet suprise!

I was working outside at home on Sunday when I thought I heard a bob white call. I wasn't sure and then the neighbor started his mower up and I couldn't hear anything. This morning I went to check on the pheasants I'm raising for the club and I heard the call of a bob white. Then I saw where he was calling from.

He was on the flight pen for the pheasants. It has been almost 2 weeks since I last saw one of the released birds and I was very happy to hear and see him. I also saw a rooster in the area today as well.

Nice to see! Are you still using the recall house for the quail?

I still have the two johnny houses but they are empty right now. I did get some quail in May to keep in them to use with Champ but they are all gone now. They don't recall very well in the spring. I'll be getting a young batch in few weeks.

I was grilling this evening at home and I heard a bob white calling from a nearby farm. I hope he has some friends.

I've got better news! I heard one closer to the house this morning and now I'm hearing at least 2 while sitting on my back patio.

I haven't heard anything in a little over a week now. I'm not sure how much they move around. To be honest, I was very surprised to hear them at all this month. I'll be getting the next set of you quail in about a week and I'll see if they can bring any survivors back to the area.

Thanks for the report. How are your pheasants doing this year, have you made any improvements to the pens, are you raising the same amount?

I picked up the same amount of pheasant chicks in early May- 200 day old chicks. I didn't do anything different and things went well. My two boys and I put the blinders on about a month ago and they are doing well. I did loose a few more than usual because of all the rain when they were first put in the flight pen. I was in a tough situation; they were too big for the brooder house and not ready for all the heavy rain we got one night. But they are looking good. I still see a rooster from last year but it has been a little while since I saw the hens.
