Swamp Birds!

We went to an area today that we had scouted earlier in year specifically for the late season. It's a large swamp surrounded by a few fields that is basically a great hideout for birds! Our scouting payed off as we got into the birds today! We harvested three hens and missed two long tailed roosters! We flushed more hens than roosters..8 compared to 2 but we had a blast! It felt so great to get back out after those birds, we just love hunting them! Dugan did great, he had to work through some poor scenting conditions early but that didn't affect him to much because he has experienced it all in his time hunting the elusive ringneck!

Nice work! I know shooting in that type of cover can be tough at times.
Was it busy where you were hunting? Do you think the birds were holdovers from earlier in the year or was there a late season stocking?

HollowWatcher is being to modest, He's been planning this hunt since deer season. This hunt was all him, well him and Dugan. It was a VERY tough hunt but worth the effort. This area does NOT recieve any late season birds! The area always supports holdovers, there's just no type of nesting cover.

We were the only guys hunting this area, it's not your typical pheasant hunting spot. The birds end up there after being pushed from were they were released. We have a few such spots. The birds were full of the native vegatation. The Roosters we flushed were loud and nasty, it was like they didn't like being disturbed. The shooting was vey tough with unbalanced shots in heavy cover. This was a very rewarding hunt, here's to you HollowWatcher.
