SW KS--how many of you?

How many of you are still planning to hunt SW KS, despite the forecast? I'm not going to make it out there for this opener, but for reasons OTHER than KDWP's forecast. I've repeatedly insisted that I'd not go back for another 70 degree opener in past years. I probably still would've went there tomorrow, knowing that the high would be near 70 and bird #'s are low. With a reduction in pressure, I wouldn't mind lower bird #'s at all.

A co-worker who had today off said he was out on I-70 this morning and couldn't believe the # of bird hunting rigs he saw. He said, "There are more guys headed that way this year than I've ever seen on the Friday before the opener." I told him I didn't think it was b/c there were more hunters. My assumption is that a LOT of folks are hunting WIHA these days so they get out there Friday morning to scout a bit.

Good luck to you wherever you go:cheers:

I am not seeing as many dog Boxes in the Hotel parking lots. I was getting worried that the season is not coming in tomorrow.

I'll be headed that direction next Saturday; starting as soon as I hit the state line in Liberal; then hunting my way north.

good luck to all this weekend

I have been scouting two full days and it is DISMAL at best. Many farmers are closing their farms to hunting to let the birds recover. Just came back from a decent hunt in Nebraska though. If you put in some walking time you can find a few birds and the cover is good. Lots of reports of killing hail though.

I would say to everyone in Kansas to stay NORTH and you should be OK. The SW is going to be very poor. The motels here have massive last minute concellations. Good luck to everyone and stay SAFE.

I won't be here long. Just wanted to talk to eight or nine of my regular farmers to keep my contacts fresh for next year and they ALL gave me the same report.

Well, heading to Utica this evening. We're gonna give it hell regardless, but my bow IS in the truck just in case it is that bad. I hope it is like SD, they claimed it would be terrible, BUT, we had birds.... good luck!!

My group will be hunting around Liberal. We're not expecting great things but no one wants to break tradition. If nothing else we'll eat good and the crown will be flowing along with the stories of all the good years we've had.

Not for the opener, but in a couple of weeks. Brother is headed there from Wichita, so we will here about numbers of birds where I go. Farmer said he had 8 roosters in the front yard this morning. That's probably all of them!!

I dont think Stafford County counts as Southwest... but it has been Hella-Dry there... and thats where I am headed. So count me as one of the ignorant ones. At least I have an excuse to be with the dogs :)

have fun

i dont have dogs {yet} but i think i will wear out a new pair of boots this season birds were thick before the hail hit us.been out every evening for the last 7 days and only saw 9 hens and 58 rooster.not sure if thats good or bad lol. 3.5 hrs GOD BLESS U ALL have fun and dont forget the tp.
