Today the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever held its 17th annual Youth Hunt. The hunt was held at Central Penn Sporting Clays. It was a little breezy but overall it was a great day. We had 10 kids hunt in pairs in different fields. Each team consisted of 2 hunters, 2 mentors and a dog handler.

The day consisted of a talk about Pheasants Forever and the local WCO was there to talk to us. Everybody was able to have some donuts in the morning and then each kid got 25 shots on the 5 stand. That was followed up by lunch where everybody sat together with their team. Finally it was time to hit the fields to hunt some pheasants. All the dogs worked well and every kid had a lot of action on the day. After the hunt was over it was time to get back together for pictures and stories. And I can't forget about the homemade ice cream. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped with being a mentor or dog handler today. It was a great day for everybody. Below are some pictues from today.

im sure the kids had a great experience.

nice pictures

Great Job Brian! The area looks very cool and the second picture down is very cool! I am glad everyone had a good time! Where is Central Penn?

Central Penn is in Wellsville which is in northern York County. It is not far from the York Pointer/Setter Club. They have a nice sporting clays course that I shoot at a couple times over the summer.

That's great stuff Brian, just think what the Ringneck has meant to introducing young people to hunting, and I'm proud to say that our Game Commission get's it!
Your dogs are real Pro's now, I'll bet not to many Roosters can give them the slip any longer. :10sign:

Nittany and Blitz do a good job but they are by no means perfect. But they do hunt hard all the time. I'm sure you appreciate your dog's effort when you're out with him. I do appreciate what the PGC has done this year. It has been a very good year so far and there are a few weeks left.

Hey Brian, just wondering, did your Chapter supply the birds or was it Central Penn?

Central Penn supplied the birds but I'm not sure where they get them from. One of the groups also got into a covey of quail while on their hunt. I have got into quail in past hunts but not this year. It works out nice to have our youth hunt there. They have enough area for our 5 groups and the kids get to warm up on the 5 stand before the hunt.
