Stock oil

I had a friend who would cut True oil with some Linseed oil. He would slightly warm the mix and hand rub it in. He put about 7-10 coats on with a light sanding with fine sand paper between each coat. It would come out so nice. A nice satin oil finish. I prefer Satin to the high gloss.

I did a stock with just Tru-oil and sanding. After several coats of the oil. I found about 24 hours of drying time before sanding and oiling really helped. Also masking tape wrapped around my hand really cleaned up the sanding particles. I rubbed it down with Rotten Stone. It came out high gloss and a beautiful stock. In my eyes anyway............Bob

I think the answers you got are about refinishing wood stocks and that may be what you are interested in, but for gun maintenance I love a product called Clenzoil. The great part about Clenzoil is you can use it on metal and wood, and I like the smell... kinda piney.
