Statewide rifle use finally a reality.

I don't think its safe here in the south, to flat to wide open.

Well i don't know about most of the southern part of the state being too "open", but I do k ow there are a lot more hunters hunting closer to houses, roads, and other hunters down here than up north.

Will be interesting. I am sure the northern kettle moraine will be full of AK47s.

Rock, Green
Both them counties have been open for rifle since 2008.

That article is pretty misleading. Most of southern Wi isn't being opened for rifles because it is already legal to use a rifle is the vast majority of southern Wisconsin. I remember when rifles were made legal here and everybody thought it was going to cause problems. It just hasn't.

I realize that, and I don't care for it, I could see a guy in a tree across the field from my patio, shotgun pretty safe o-6 not so.
Just sayin

They only did it because they weren't kill in enough deer.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree but if you want here's a link that explains how a shotgun can actually be more dangerous.

http://lbfc.legis.state.pa.us/factsheets/2007/rifle_shotgun_webpost.pdf

I did some digging on this and I'm changing my mind from my original somewhat faulty thinking.
That said the main part or the study is the ricochet of the shotgun over the bullet which I can see as true, but I was more concerned at long range over the horizon shot by the rifle. I realize the idea of getting hit by a stray is tiny and not rational, but when you are up north hunting and your family is here you can be concerned.
Plus the guys I see hunting here in rock county when I'm Pheasant hunting are not always what I call seasoned hunters, I seen some really goofy setups and guys that don't look to know which end is up, but they won't be safe with either, I'm always happier to see guys with scopes at least they have to look at the deer.
I think the DNR should have done a better job getting the facts out there seems even allot of hunters don't know the facts.
We can agree to agree.

Yes big time.

Just hope they don't get like Indiana on what they want you using as rifle rounds. The case length minimum is 1.16" and max length of 1.8"..

Well, not so fast!

The townships and counties can say they don't want rifle use, and i am hearing that there are meetings next week by me in fond du lac county already.

If they do stop deer hunting with rifles, lets hope that is how they word it. If they say no hunting with rifles we may not be able to coyote hunt with rifles. What do you think Holy Moses????
lab man

I never thought of that.....while I do most of my hunting on private land so I wouldn't worry too much, my father and his group, who you probably know, do their coyote hunting pretty much exclusively in the kettles. Not being able to use rifles would really stink.

Let's hope that there are some coyote hunters that show up at the meeting!

I was pheasant hunting a field in Rock county once, when the coyote guys came through took me awhile to figure out what they were doing.
