Took a little time yesterday to see if any quail where still around St Joe and we found 3 coveys and shot 4 in just over 2 hours. We could of had double that but these tough birds need some respect for being so resilient. They have my utmost respect for surviving last years weather brutality. It was a wonderful hunt and the setters did their job well.

Got into 3 coveys yesterday just northeast of Bethany! We saw and got one rooster and saw about 15 hens as well! Very happy with what I found up there!

i would say that is pretty darn good, considering how rough winter was up there last year......good news.

Missouri pheasants and prevent plant acres

I have not been out as much as I'd like, but in general, I think there are more birds than I expected. Especially pheasants. Dogs have been pretty consistently into pheasants, although seems like a lot of 2 year old birds. Hope for a good spring, warm and low moisture. i have been hunting some of the "prevent plant acres", annual weeds this year, because it was to wet to get the crop in. Boy the birds love that stuff.

I live in St. Joe but did a lot of bird hunting around union star. We were getting into about 5 to 6 covies a day and about 10 pheasants. My dad, his friend, and I would end up with around 8 quail and one or two roosters. It was tough this year compared to last year. I thought it was odd, but out of all the roosters we killed, only one wasnt an old bird. I think the hatch must have been way down.
