Just done reviewing the weeks crop report and 10 day weather forecast for the state of South Dakota. what really jumps out at me is how far ahead of the 5-year average the crops are. Winter Wheat, Corn, soybeans are all way ahead of schedule. I am not sure if there is any correlation but maybe the pheasants will be ahead of schedule too.
One thing I would assume is that with the advanced crop progress that would set us up for crops getting out of the fields early as the maturities would have been reached well in advance of normal harvest times due to unseasonably early planting and warm temps. I see growing degree days are well into the positive as well which is good for crops and nesting birds.
No large scale reports of broods yet but June 10th is normal peak hatch. Temps for 10 days forecast put the highs near 80 and lows near 60 which is good for young birds should they hatch early. things have dried out a little sine the deluge rains a couple weeks ago which should have been ahead of any nesting.
Should be another good season for waterfowl as sloughs have ample water in them even prior to recent heavy rains.
