You mean cut the slack like trim the edge for use with a smaller dog? Are you sure the collar strap doesn't just wind around the edge of the device? All of the e-collars I have seen the collar strap is removable/replaceable. The antenna if they have one is also clearly visible and not part of the collar strap. That's my experience at least, usually with Garmin/tritronics gear.

These are the cheap ones that most hardware/farm stores sell. But yes the collar is way to long and I think I read that the antenna is actually laced in the collar band.

You absolutely can trim the collar extra if you are referring to shortening the overall length......just trim it rounding the cut.
SportDog brand is the only collar I've owned, I've trimmed several so there was not so much extra length. Others just fold the excess over and through the collar ring.
It does appear that some models have the antenna laced in the collar material.....never really noticed that.....with that said, I've trimmed 3 and never had an issue! LOL!!

Looking back in my manuals.....every SportDog I had/have say trim it.
