Spoiler Field

I have permission to hunt five contiguous quarters of a two-section piece of mostly farmed ground. There're a usually dry creek, grass patches, trees along and in the creek draw, as well as the corn and milo stalks and stubble that's there every fall. It's also beautiful. The problem? There is what I call a spoiler field abutting on two sides. It is an irrigated quarter whose crop, usually corn, is never harvested until after the season is over. I think about all the pheasants in the area spend the season under its full canopy.

I've got the same situation on two farms I used to hunt in SD. Marsh on the property line with corn that never seems to get harvested until really late. Seems every patch of good cover on the property has corn adjacent that stays up late. Go out in the morning-afternoon to sit and observe. Watch the roosters pop up in the corn to get a look at you, like they're flipping you the middle finger. The fly back into the cover at last light, providing a short window of opportunity.
