South Dakota Hunts

List all the places you have hunted in South Dakota, along with where your best time hunting was, and what year. (I realize people that live in SD can't really list all the places)

Delmont
Wagner
Aberdeen
Howard
Colome

Best hunt ever in South Dakota was 1991 near Delmont.

Kimball, Wilmot, Chamberlain, Firesteel, and Faulkton. As far as seeing the most birds, Kimball in 2002, Firesteel and Faulkton in 2012. The best hunt/most fun was Wilmot in 2006.

Chamberlain, Kimball, Hoven, Mobridge, Aberdeen, Groten, Selby and Eureka. Most fun and birds was in Hoven. It was private property though. All else was public.

Tripp, Delmont, Artesian and Rockport Colony by Alexandria.
Best hunt was at Rockport before the guides came in and
leased the hunting rights.

Kimball 1998, the year I got married. 4,000 acres of private land north and south of the interstate. I had hunted pheasants in Iowa for my entire life, never seen anything like it. Huron 2007, must have been great carryover because the second year birds were huge, my brother and I remember it as the year of the "turkey birds".

Chamberlain, Pucwana, Kimball, Winner, Mitchell, Piere, Presho, Fort Thompson, Lower Brule, Eureka

I can remember talking to a farmer on a back road in 1987. When I asked him about pheasants, he said that are not any pheasants in South Dakota anymore. I did see birds that year, but not many.

That all changed as habitat increased. And every year thereafter we saw more birds. Haven't been since 2010 as we have been hunting ND, but I have some great memories of SD.

Hard to single out one great memorable hunt as there are so many. In fact, each and every trip has been outstanding.

All Openers:

Hitchcock - 1980
Reliance - 1981, 1983
Doland - 1993
Kimball - 1995, 1996
Huron - 2000
Doland/Turton - 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007

Without a doubt 2000 thru 2007 was the modern day soil bank in that old hotbed of Spink and surrounding counties.

All gone now..doubt I will ever go back..great memories..glad to have seen it.
