Some depressing info about Calif. pheasants

This isn't new and may have been mentioned before but the DFG site has two pdf files showing pheasant harvest on the wildlife areas over a period of time. They have some nice line graphs that really says it all. Here's the link to the page. Go down to the publications list. Have a couple of stiff drinks before you open them.

Still not as depressing as hunting a preserve, to me at least. I enjoy my long walks in our few remaining wetlands. I was actually kind of glad that Richvale shut down and I was forced to hunt just the refuge system. Last year was my most fulfilling season to date.

The wildlife areas are the remaining jewels available to the unwashed and can still be fun if nothing like in the past. Look at 1998 at Gray lodge and see what it used to be like. Unfortunately, the money is in duck hunting now and uplands are being converted to wetlands with poor pheasant prospects for the future.
