Well looks like i won't be getting out until Sunday, had family christmas postponed until tommorow.... But I'll be out there Sunday!

There are 5 of us leaving Sunday AM headed NE of Dodge. As of Wed they were supposed to get 4-6 inches. Something tells me they may have gotten more.

Anyone out in the Dodge area give a weather update? :)

I talked to someone near Larned that said there was no snow yet. They reported ice there as well. I'll be leaving tomorrow sometime. Not sure where I'll hunt tomorrow afternoon yet, but I'll be NE of Dodge as well Sunday. Good luck!

I hope the ice isn't to bad and kills to many birds. the weather channel said in Salina that they had 7 foot snow drifts. Its going to be hard to get around back roads in central and northeast kansas this weekend i imagine.

I think the weather channel exagerates, when you look at the scout cam in Salina it does not look llike a lot of snow has fallen in that area. Leaving for hays on Monday.

Assuming the roads are clear between here and there we will be in NW Kansas Monday AM ready to scatter some shot.

Safe travels to everyone.

We had a group of 3 of us that planned to hunt Saturday in Ellsworth Co. but after I talked to my dad and saw the wind speeds on Weather.com we decided to stay put. I called 511 and got the road updates, I-70 was starting to drift back shut from Topeka west so I decided we needed to cancel our trip until this upcoming weekend. Dad said that with the wind some roads were drifting up-wards of 5ft. deep. Did any of you guys that got out have any luck?

Yes I did

I had a great time this weekend. I hunted a WIHA spot on the way out to Pawnee county Saturday afternoon. About 50 yards into the field, my eldest Brit locked up on 2 tight holding roosters. I missed the first bird by several feet and connected with the second bird. Saw about 10 more birds in the 100 yards of CRP and headed for the truck (kids waiting). Hunted a homestead a little ways away and found another 25 birds. 5 of them were roosters and 1 met his fate. Lots of good points this weekend thanks to the wind and a bit of ice.

Saw 4 hens and 2 roosters in 6 hrs hunting private land in Pawnee/Edwards county. Hunted some milo stubble next to CRP WIHA in the 2 areas I was hunting, at the same time at each place, w/ very similar weather conditions; AND finally concluded that S Pawnee county's bird population sucks this year. It only took 4 trips to convince myself.

Hunted the same WIHA spot mentioned earlier on the way back home. Saw somewhere between 40-50 birds. Shot 2, missed another very easy 2 and headed for the house. Very satisfied overall. Nearly every bird was pointed and that's what makes the trip special for me.

GET OUT WHILE IT'S COLD!

Not Brave Enough

Well looks like i won't be getting out until Sunday, had family christmas postponed until tommorow.... But I'll be out there Sunday!

I opted for purely holiday-related activities for the weekend -- no hunting. Heading out to the Happy Hunting Grounds, however, on Wednesday for a few days with an old pal who lives in Salt Lake. We will enjoy the camaraderie of the hunt, enjoy some good meals and beverages, and focus mainly on quail which we hope survived the 8" of snow and high winds that brutalized NW.
