Got out on Saturday with Blitz and Dakota. Headed up to Brush - worked some CRP fields. Saw a fair number of tracks this time, still plenty of snow everywhere. After giving it a go in Brush, we headed up to Fleming. Also saw plenty of tracks in Fleming. We hit spots with shelter belts and Russian olive thickets. Saw a few birds flying out of private land into corn. As it turns out there was a coyote running through the CRP which was flushing the birds. They were far enough out that I couldn't tell if they were hens or roosters. I let the youngster run through the shelter belts, there was enough scent to get him fired up. Hunted till 4:30 and called it a day. About 2 miles outside of Fleming on HWY 6 I saw a big rooster on the side of the highway ... need to work on my aim with the Explorer. ;-)
It was a good day. We are headed to a hunting preserve for a couple of days this weekend. Nice and quiet, and plenty of birds.
