Snow and Blizzard Conditions

If you go!! Get out of town Tuesday night early!! 70 will most likely get shut down at some point!!! Limon into Kansas will be a no go!!!

I am trying to hunt Wednesday here in CO. Would it be better to wait until Thursday after the snow passes?

I'm trying to hunt during the snow Wednesday here in KS, but I suspect traveling conditions will be a little easier where I'm at. It's great when the snow is coming down and after it's already there. I'll do both;-)

I would hold off until Thursday if I was you. Wednesday is supposed to be bad out east with snow and 30+ MPH winds. That will be bad for you and the birds. Let them hunker down until the storm passes. If you get to them early Thursday, you should have good success.

Be careful out there.

I hope I'm wrong, but skepticism says I'll believe in the Snow and Snow Blizzard conditions out East when I see it. Weathermen have killed my hopes more than once! My plan is to just wait and see what happens.

Regardless of the snow, Me and my Setter are heading east Saturday afternoon as soon as my 13 yr. old daughter lands at the airport, and then staying the night somewhere and hunting all day Sunday.

some of my best hunting a few years ago in S.D. was during snow storms with 20-30 mph winds, sideways snow, and very low visibility. Birds hold tight when it's bad out, just don't know if there are any out there to find.

Oh they will definitely hold tight when it's miserable, but you have to be careful. Numbers are already way down; kicking them out of their beds (especially the hens) in those conditions may result in even lower numbers in the future. Something to think about.

I'm not trying to discourage hunting or say your unethical for hunting in a blizzard, I just wonder if there ever is a detrimental effect on the birds. Who knows, maybe they survive just fine; intuition just tells me to let the blizzard pass before going after them.

That being said, one of my most memorable hunting days was the day after an 8 inch dumping of snow. The morning was calm, and rooster after rooster exploded out of the snow. The switchgrass had folded over on top of them and provided a warm shelter from the snow. My dog would go on point and BOOM, out comes a rooster. It was unforgettable. I live for days like that but have yet to experience it again. ;)

Get there now!!! If you have to wait a day, so what!! Travel is easier now!!! Not a long lasting Blizzard and cold spell, so any birds you kick up during this Storm will be right back into the cover in 15 minutes!!! Good Luck!! Just found out my Vacation time is not carryover this year, so I have 45 hours to burn!!! See ya out there Boys!!!!

Looks like the weatherman came through for us!! Go get them boys and post stories and pictures!!

I'll be stuck at work!!

wind not to bad the ground is covered with snow now. The best day to hunt this season so far and Im sitting in the house......Might have to go check some shelter belts

went out to my favorite shelter belt, Was full of birds close to 50 got up out of a 20x20 yard plum thicket and I missed all 3 shots. Was good to see that many in one place. The wind is howling and snow drifts 3 ft. deep so thats it for me today, Did see others out feeding in the corn and a few flew across the road

Good to hear you got into them, Bill! Never doubted you and Tucker would find them. I hope the birds and snow stick around for me, Andy, and my daughter??? Lol.... I also hope some of them birds are on a few WIA's too!! I really want to get her a chance at her first rooster!!

Good luck out there tomorrow!!
