Well Game and fish just posted the small game outlook for 2013/14 season. Looks like its going to be a tough year for Quail in central Arizona.:( Guess I'll have to travel to find birds like last year. Two weeks until dove opener, I can't wait to get out and see for myself if quail numbers are down.

Bet You will be able to locate a few.

A couple good years and that dessert will be crawling with quail again.

I think azgfd's call counts are wrong. I think they conducted them a bit to early this year. this year should be much better than last. I'll know more after Sept.1 dove opener. :)

I was out dove scouting this morning and saw a pair of quail in a vineyard with about 10 3/4 grown juves and about 12 golf ball sized chicks. Most of the vines these days are on drip but the ones that are still flood irrigated produce lots of quail, the only problem is it is almost impossible to hunt them in the vines. I also noticed two Cooper's hawks hunting another family group of quail on the creek bank that borders the south side of the field, not a whole lot of doves flying though.

WOW strange no doves? I have been watching flocks pushing 100, of whitewinged doves flying south every morning for the last two weeks. It's good to hear you are seeing broods.

well after hunting dove in three different parts of the state. I am happy to say the quail are doing better than The GFD is stating. I saw many broods. Some of them seem to be about a month old. Most of them 3 or four months old. :)
