Question about cover?
do you hunt sharp tails in grass knee high or lower?
Prairie chickens near crops and knee high grass or shorter?
New to these birds and we are coming out for a ten day vacation, have hunted pheasants a long time and just trying to pick up something new. Thanks Tom

I saw a post somewhere that said if you cannot see the toes of your boots, your not in sharptail country.

I hunt sharpies a lot. The rule of the grass being shorter than you're knees for sharpies habitat is generally true, especially early in the season. Sharpies are visual birds, they like to be able to see danger coming and flush well before it gets close.

Having fields nearby can't hurt, they will feed on sunflowers especially if they're available. But you can also get into lots of birds in open grassland habitat, they don't need the ag they way pheasants do.
