Seeking Quail

Haven't taken a shot at a quail this season in NW at the Happy Hunting Grounds. Think I'll head south this weekend from Lawrence and see if I can find some on public ground. I'm inspired by some recent fotos in this subforum showing limits on tail gates. I love eating quail.

Hey Mark...can't "Tom The Guide" offer you some direction? Would think he would have a handle on where to go et al.

Maybe he'll see this and message me.

I'll be chasing them too in about 8 hours! :D Been a tough season for birds again, but the dogs always love a good run. Only a week of season left so we gotta make the most of it!

Quail on the table is definitely a winter highlight!

Not to rain on your parade but this year has been killer for quail for us. On my 2 private spots we have 7 coveys, plus my buddy found 2 on his spot which hasn't had birds in a few years. They are out there, just have to be walking the right kind of cover. We've been hunting NC part of the state though. As for roosters, I haven't seen hardly any this year. But I also haven't been walking much CRP, mostly just hedge rows.

hope your able to find some....I am hoping to get back out there this week myself for couple final days of hunting....hasn't been a banner quail season but it's been fair....I'll take that.

Britchaser did you have any luck this weekend? I went to a spot that had quite a few birds last year and got one small covie pointed. I was disappointed to say the least.

One more saturday left.

I hunted four walk-in spots before the temp got to 60 and I got hungry for that steak I set out to grill. Saw one covey that was out-of-bounds and one single in bounds. Got the single. Very nice day to be out. Thanks!
