Is there an application that I can use for my phone that will allow me to see my current location, through the phone GPS, and the public land borders? I downloaded the app for my android that is called SDFGP Outdoors from the SD website. It says it will show me my current location, but when I turn the GPS on it never shows me where I am. I am not currently in SD, but I zoom to my location and it doesn't show me.

I have used GoogleEarth in Kansas before.
 
On my android it seems to work just fine. Although I had to press the scope looking symbol to get it to locate me. Plan on using it 3 weeks from today!

Are you talking about the thing that looks like the crosshairs like you are looking through the scope? I hit that button and it says GPS on and if I hit it again it says GPS off. I am in Texas and it won't locate me even with a map of the entire US.

That's it... It says the same thing on mine (GPS ON or OFF), but then locates me here in Missouri with a blue dot at my current location. Maybe try uninstalling it and then reinstall.
 
You also need to make sure the GPS on your phone is turned on as well. If only the app GPS is on it doesn't work.

This solved my problem. I had to go into the phone settings and turn on the phone location (gps) and turn the gps on in the App.

The app says it has an update on 8 Oct tot fix the iPhone gps issue. But it still doesn't show my location and it runs constantly in back ground drains my battery in 3 hrs
 
We used this last week and it was pretty handy. We couldn't get the GArmin overlay to work in the NUVI so this was we had ( aside from paper book). I found the app to be a little unstable. Had to restart it often.
Yea, it'll run in the background unless you turn it off. (Ifon)
