For starters, go to the South Dakota game and fish dept's website and order the hunting atlas. It contains maps of all of the public access areas. If you are from an area near Mille Lacs, or the Twin Cities, NE SD isn't far away and there's plenty of room to roam there. A few years ago a buddy accompanied me on a 4 day trip. We started near Webster and hunted a different area each day, ending west of Mitchell. We worked hard, scouting in the mornings, then hunting all afternoon. We shot close to our limit of birds and had a great time. You don't need to pay a lot of money to get there and hunt if you are willing to wear some boot leather. There's a lot of good hunting around Webster and so a good place to start. Good luck on your adventure.
