Not trying to scare anyone, but they are seeing a lot of rattlers around Pierre---even on the east side!!! Be careful out there. It will be a little warm Sat. and I plan to hunt till about 9 and then hit the water for walleye.

ststststsstts!!

Last year I hunted the FPNG for 3 1/2 days, first weekend of October. I used a pedometer and walked over 20 miles. Saw 2 rattlensnakes on the gravel roads, neither I nor the dog found one in the grass, thankfully. I would like to hear from others that hunt the Pierre area this year in early season, how many rattlers did you see if any? Is the dog snake vaccination worth the price, and does it actually work?

I have never seen one on the Grasslands, but a good dogman says all are reporting increased sightings this year for some reason. ONCE AGAIN, WON'T KEEP ME FROM HUNTING,JUST EXERCISING A LITTLE MORE CAUTION.

How far east from Pierre do rattlers or any other venomous snakes range in SD? We've never seen any snakes at all from Plankington area to Brookings and north of there.

Once you get away from the Missouri River on the east side, you will not see a rattler. I have lived here 58 years and hunted around Plankinton, never seen a snake East River, but I know many who have, mostly around Pierre.
