i cant even read it man it blows to much!!! really sad!!!
i was told by SD residents & veteran hunters of SD when i said i hardly seen any pheasants at all along I-90 wear i used to see hundreds & hundreds of birds in years past that it was not a indication of the health of the SD pheasants & it was my guess work or opinion... well it looks like if you dont see hundreds of pheasants wear u once did B4 it is a good indication of the population & health of a population of pheasants in a area a boys???
hey good to see you back here posting TBEAR thought we lost you man!!!
i have herd many reports of 2nd-3rd hatches & birds that can barely fly now so lets hope that wet spring was not the death blow to MN pheasants like SD???
our pheasant report will be out any day now & we will get the news my fingers are crossed!!!
we did shoot more pheasants last yr then the season prior thow... but that was with the crops out for opening day... but the 2012 harvest was lower then expected on the down side... they said the lower then expected harvest was due dry scenting conditions for dogs...??? my family did ok on opener...
hope this year is at least as good as last year & man give us a break & at least not be down as bad as they say SD is this yr!!!
SD mowed every bit of grass they could find last year.
Pheasants REQUIRE undisturbed grasslands for nesting and brood raising.
And Pheasants REQUIRE Old growth "last years" weeds and grass to protect nests and young chicks.
MN still had a lot of good cover in the GMA's within the pheasant range.
I'd expect MN to be holding it's own a far as Fall Pheasant hunting.
yes wayne your correct our WMAs in pheasant range did still have plenty of cover & we did not mow our pheasant cover on public lands anything like SD did last year so i assume we will not be down 64% i just hope for another 68% increase for this year & bring our harvest back into the 300,000+ range
up north ur way did get some prolonged snow cover into the spring hope there wasnt a major winter loss???
SD threw me for a loop with the 64% down in pheasant numbers ill guess MN has a 20%-30% increase this year man i hope so a guy can wish cant he!!!
just read a report from the 17th & the women in charge of the MN brood count survey said she thinks we will have a down years also or numbers will be lower this season then last... think i just searched 2013 mn brood count survey & it was a newspaper article...
it was released aug,17 & i have herd of chicks barely able to fly as of like 7-10 days ago so i think her mention of late nesting is a hint that they really dont know whats going on this season brood count wise!!! we will have to wait till opening day she pulled the old SD survey comment pheasants will be spotty or good numbers in pockets this season...
it figures we have a person new to pheasant hunting in charge of our MN pheasant survey & in charge of many things involving pheasants in MN???
just got some good news wear i hunt pheasants in MN was not one of the countys mentioned in witch countys were hayed this season threr was some grazing on 1-2 WIAs thow im not worried about that there out of there now any way had be off aug.14th or so???
