not half way through feb., only two weeks from the last hunt and already bored. pastor john doesn't pick up his new hunting machine till the 21 of mar. so here is what i have been doing. my queen spends a lot of time feeding the birds in our back yard. merlin's love our back yard also, at least the part of killing and eating the song birds. merlin's by the way are small about pigeon size falcons. i see them quite a lot. anyway, i decided to carve a merlin, probably to irritate my queen but also to put in my cherry tree and strawberry patch, hopefully to keep the robins from beating me to the fruit. plastic owls don't work and i can show a pic. of a robin sitting on the head of one, that's how well they work, hence the merlin. also shown is one of my favorite birds, a slate colored junco. for you with the ol' eagle eye, the beak of the falcon is a bear claw, kinda add a different touch to things. herter's, in the 40's used the bear claw for the beak on the owls they were selling. what the merlin actually scares, don't know, maybe you, anyway
