Saturday's Hunt

Today was day 2 of a pheasant hunt for a friend of mine and a friend of his. We started out on a Gamelands in York county that I haven't hunted for a couple of years. I wish I would have checked the area out because there was a lot of standing corn. Too much for me to enjoy the hunting. It didn't help matters when another dog attacked Nittany. There was no damage done but I was not happy. We didn't find any birds, either. After this we made our way back to the truck and went to another area. This area proved more productive and we got in to birds pretty quickly. We hunted for a several hours and bagged 3 birds before going to get lunch. When we got to the truck a GSP came running over to us but the owner wasn't around. We called the PGC, SPCA and tried to find the owner but we didn't have any luck. After about 45 minutes the owner comes walking up with another dog. He said the dog waiting in the parking lot had enough hunting and left him to go back to the car. He didn't seem too worried about her leaving. It would have been helpful if a phone number was on her collar somewhere. Now we could finally get lunch and get back to hunting. We found more birds and two of us had our limits with a 3rd still empty handed. We kept working and found more birds but the guy couldn't connect on anything. The day ended with 12 flushes, 11 from points and 4 birds in the bag. The weekend total for the dogs was 22 flushes with all but one coming from points and 9 birds taken for 4 hunters on Friday and 3 on Saturday. The dogs are tired and resting well. They hunted for about 16 hours this weekend and deserve a break.

Also, I got a call today that the puppies were born and if one of them shows good promise in the field he will be ours.

He was "tired of hunting & decided to go wait at the car in the parking lot" and that was...okay

WOW!!!

Glad your dog ended up ok after getting jumped - it's happened to my pup too - not cool.

Good on you for hosting a hunt even if it was less than ideal.

Been reading all of the reports and I'm chomping at the bit!!!

Thank you for your consistent posts - I find them very helpful.

Wow! That's a busy couple of days. Glad to hear that Nittany is alright, what did Blitz do when his buddy was attacked? We have all had a ton of action and the season is only a week old.
Any names picked out for the new pup? JoPa! :)

I think Blitz thought they were playing. After it happen hu just wanted to romp and play. He's a goofball.

I think the full name will be Semper Fi Nittany Lion Champion and will go by Champ.

You all are having a great season, keep it up! And cheers to you for taking out new people and introducing them to hunting. Keeping the next generation interested in hunting is the only way to help preserve the land!

The only complaint I have is people not controlling there dogs. I am seeing that more and more. Sound like a good day and can't wait to see your pup.

Wow talk about a weekend! Glad to hear Nittany is alright, having something like that happen isnt cool at all. Both Nittany and Blitz did a great job, i'm sure they had an great time out in the field all weekend. It sounds like your buddies had a heck of a time and had plenty of shooting opportunities!

Funny thing about the other dog getting tired and headed to the car.

If yall need a break when you head down here to check out the pups just let me know.

Great..a pup would make a awesome Christmas present!

That it would!

Are you sure that was a dog that attacked your dog, I remember sometime over the weekend going into the thickets and had my clothes ripped off from all the thorns and fighting with another dog over my pheasant ( did I mention I'm very hairy )
